Former England pacer James Anderson shocked the world by putting his name up for IPL Auctions 2025. The 42-year-old had retired in July after the Lord’s Test match against West Indies. Anderson is the only pace bowler with over 700 Test wickets and is the 3rd highest wicket-taker in the longest format of the game.
Anderson recently spoke to Sky Sports and said “That's the whole point of going into auction. I want to play again. Whether I get picked or not is a different matter. But I have a feeling inside me that I have got more to offer in some shape or form”

The former England star hasn’t played in the IPL in his long career. This will be the first time Anderson has put up his name for auctions in the biggest T20 league in the world. During the course of his chat with Sky Sports, Anderson also revealed that he still wants to play cricket as he feels fit.
James Anderson wishes to continue playing cricket
After this shock retirement, many experts have questioned if Anderson was forced to retire despite being at his peak. The former England pacer has stated his desire to keep running into bowl even in his 50s.
“However, long down the line that might be. In whatever capacity, I am not sure yet. But I am very keen to play. I feel very fit, I have been bowling still I feel like I am in a good place so I would love to get the opportunity to play somewhere," said James Anderson to Sky Sports.
When asked about his chances of landing a team in the IPL, England’s former pacer said “Nothing yet. We'll just have to wait and see; keep my fingers crossed and see what happens”. Few teams might be interested in Anderson considering the impact player rule that is in effect.
Finally, when asked if retirement had sunk in yet, Anderson revealed “If it were in my hands, I would've continued playing till 50. I believe I am fit and performing well. England were looking at the future, which is perfectly fine"
