Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag took a dig at Babar Azam for his poor performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which led to Pakistan's humiliating group-stage elimination. Notably, the USA vs. Ireland washout game due to rain in Florida confirmed their elimination from the tournament despite their victories in their last two Group A games against Canada and Ireland. Undoubtedly, the Pakistan skipper's performance and captaincy were under fire after the Men in Green were ousted.

Notably, the Lahore-born skipper scored just 122 runs with a strike rate of just 101.66 for Pakistan in four matches. In the same vein, former India opener Virender Sehwag exposed the flaws in the Pakistan captain's game while claiming that he fails to meet the standards for playing T20 cricket in this current era. In addition, the 2011 ODI World Cup and 2007 T20 World Cup winners made a harsh decision, saying that the 29-year-old cricketer should not be considered for the Pakistan T20I team if PCB acts against him and removes him from white-ball captaincy once again.

Babar Azam has been making bold headlines since the ODI World Cup 2023 after his side failed to perform in the league stage, which ruled them out ahead of the knockout matches in the host country, India. In addition, the Green Army yet again produced a horrendous show in the 2024 T20 World Cup, making them rule out of the ongoing event.

Babar Azam doesn't deserve a place in the T20 team: Virender Sehwag

“But as a leader, you have to think whether this game is useful for his team. If not, then demote yourself and send someone who can play big shots in the six overs and get the team 50–60 runs. I may sound harsh, but if the captain changes, Babar doesn't deserve a place in the T20 team. His performances and strike rate are not as per the demands of today's T20 cricket," Virender Sehwag said on the Cricbuzz.
