It takes a lot of years or decades for history to repeat itself, especially in the game of cricket, but the 18th April 2025 happened to be the day when history repeated itself in IPL after 17 long years and 18 seasons. The central figure of this ‘history repeats itself’ happened to be none other than the former RCB skipper and the modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli.

Kohli got dismissed at the individual score of just 1 run off 3 balls against PBKS in the 34th game of the ongoing IPL 2025. He was caught by Marco Jansen off Arshdeep Singh’s delivery on the fourth ball of the third over in the first innings.

Here’s what happened 17 years ago on April 18 in 2008

Let us take you 17 years back in 2008, on the same day of April 18, it was the first-ever game of IPL between RCB and KKR at the same venue, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was the game when the then 19-year-old, young Virat Kohli was a part of RCB’s playing XI. He came to bat at number three, and he was dismissed just at the score of 1 run off 5 balls. It was KKR pacer Ashok Dinda who dismissed Kohli.

RCB had lost that by a big margin of 140 runs as they were bundled out at the score of just 82 runs in response to KKR’s massive total of 222 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs.

So, it can be said that the years and seasons changed, but Virat Kohli’s fate on April 18 remains the same after 17 years from 2008 to 2025.

Tim David and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are there in the middle with individual scores of 19 and 4 runs, respectively.

Arshdeep Singh, Marco Jansen, and Yuzvendra Chahal have scalped 2 wickets each for PBKS in the first innings so far, alongside a wicket picked by Xavier Bartlett.
