RCB's director of cricket Mo Bobat reveals the huge role played Virat Kohli during the IPL Auctions 2025 on the first day of the event held in Jeddah

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) director of cricket Mo Bobat revealed that he was in touch with former skipper Virat Kohli during the auction. According to Bobat, the 36-year-old, who is in Perth, was keeping an eye on the proceedings taking place in Jeddah on Sunday. Virat Kohli played a key role for India during their win in the first Test by 295 runs. 

Mo Bobat during his chat with Star Sports said, “Virat has sent a few text messages on his feedback on Day 1 of the auction. he has lots of insight about players from the start”. When asked if the team had taken any decision about the captaincy, Bobat said "We haven't made any decisions about the captaincy. We will get that thought after the auction".

Later while speaking to the team’s official social media handle Bobat said, “Let’s be honest. RCB has never won the IPL and we’ve always gone with a strategy of spending a large amount of money on a small number of players. And we wanted to change that to build a more balanced squad this year.”

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya join RCB on day two of Auctions

On the second day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were busy. Out of favor Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar was purchased for INR 10.75 Crores. The 34-year-old will be followed by former IPL winner Krunal Pandya who was purchased for INR 5.75 Crores. 

On Sunday, the team purchased England wicketkeeper Phil Salt for INR 11.5 Crores and Indian star Jitesh Sharma for 11 Crores. Liam Livingstone, who was part of Punjab Kings last season, was picked for INR 8.75 Crores. The biggest purchase was that of Josh Hazlewood for INR 12.5 Crores. The Aussie star has already played for the team for two seasons and picked 23 wickets. 

Young India stars like Rasikh Salam Dar and Suyash Sharma were brought by RCB for INR 6 and 2.6 Crores each. It has been a fruitful IPL 2025 auction so far for the Bengaluru side who are yet to win the title.
