Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The left-handed batter is down with COVID-19, as confirmed by coach Daniel Vettori ahead of the game. Head and Pat Cummins had confirmed their return to SRH’s side for the rest of the IPL 2025 season post its resumption.

This will also be a huge cause of concern for Australia, who are set to play the World Test Championship final against South Africa in a month’s time. Head is a key player for the defending champions across all formats of the game. The left-handed batter had scored a match-winning ton in the last WTC finals against India in 2023.

Addressing the media, Daniel Vettori said, “Travis is recovering well and will join the team shortly. However, due to testing positive, he couldn't travel as scheduled.” SRH have three games left in the season and are already out of the tournament. The coming three games for SRH will give them a chance to play for pride and act as a banana peel for other sides.

Lucknow Super Giants’ season on the line

Rishabh Pant will head into the game against Hyderabad needing a win to keep LSG’s playoff hopes alive. A loss against SRH will end Lucknow’s season and massive questions will be asked of Pant, who was paid INR 27 crores in the auction last November. Lucknow have lost their last three games and come up against an SRH side that has nothing to lose.

With Travis Head set to miss the game, young Atharva Taide could get a chance to open the batting. The 25-year-old has played nine games in the IPL, scoring 168 runs with two fifties. Taide last played for Punjab Kings against his current side SRH exactly a year ago to the day on Monday, scoring 46 off 27 balls with five fours and two sixes.

After their game on Monday, SRH travel to Bengaluru, where they take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru and then play Kolkata in their final match of the season. SRH will hope that they can have Head back in time to play the final two games of an otherwise disappointing IPL 2025 season.
