KKR completely outplayed the in-form SRH in the IPL 2024 Final to clinch the third title in the history of the tournament since its inception 16 years back in 2008. MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai hosted the summit clash of the 17th edition of the tournament between two top teams of the season.

SRH skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and tactically decided to bat first at Chepaukโ€™s surface owing to the record of the pitch favouring the teams batting first. However, the decision went completely southwards for SRH as they were bundled out at the score of just 113 runs in 18.3 overs.

Captain Cummins and middle-order batter Aiden Markram were the only two batters who scored more than 20+ runs individually. The veteran all-rounder Andre Russell scalped 3 wickets for SRH, alongside 2 wickets each picked by Harshit Rana and Mitchell Starc. Apart from these bowling stars for KKR, Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy also claimed one wicket each.

While chasing the target, KKR faced the first blow in Sunil Narine in the 2nd over; but then came the Iyer-Gurbaz carnage at Chepauk. Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz stitched a match-winning partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket to play a decisive role in a run-chase of 114 runs.

Iyer scored 52 runs off just 26 balls, with 4 fours and 3 sixes, having a strike rate of 200.00, alongside Gurbaz who scored crucial 39 runs off 32 balls, with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Eventually, Venkatesh Iyer went on to hit the winning run on the third ball of the 11th over, scoring 114 runs for the loss of 2 wickets and won the match by 8 wickets to clinch their third title in the history of the Indian Premier League.
