The third edition of the World Test Championship is just nearing its final next couple of months with four major teams in contention for the tournament’s summit clash. Meanwhile, the eyes are also on some great names in the tournament, including the veteran batters or bowlers who have displayed some outstanding performances since the tournament’s inception in 2019.
With that said, here we’ll look at the top five batters with the highest number of centuries in the World Test Championship. The list includes some modern-day batting greats, alongside a few names from the current world cricket’s ‘fab four’.

Joe Root
Former England skipper and modern-day batting legend, Joe Root is currently enjoying the ‘form of his life’ in Test cricket for the last couple of years. He is currently the leading run-scorer in the World Test Championship, scoring 5489 runs in 64 innings with an amazing average of 51.78.
Speaking of the centuries, the 33-year-old is currently at the top of the list with 18 centuries to his credit, alongside hitting 20 half-centuries. The Yorkshire lad is currently in action for England in the ongoing three-match Test series against New Zealand in New Zealand.
Kane Williamson
Former New Zealand skipper and veteran batter, Kane Williamson is also among the highest scorers in the WTC since the tournament’s inception. He has scored 2822 runs in 50 innings, with a brilliant batting average of 61.34.
He has smashed 11 centuries, alongside hitting six half-centuries. Williamson is currently in the second spot on the list of the players with the ‘highest number of centuries’ in the World Test Championship. Williamson also scored one of his ‘WTC centuries’ in the ongoing third and last Test of the three-match series against England.
Marnus Labuschagne
Star Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne has been one of the top headlines in the World Test Championship. He made his Test debut just four games before the commencement of the WTC in 2019. In his WTC career, Labuschagne has scored 3985 runs in 86 innings with a commendable average of 50.44.
The 30-year-old has scored 11 centuries, alongside hitting 20 half-centuries in the World Test Championship. The Aussie batter is placed in the third spot on the list of batters with the ‘highest number of centuries’ in the WTC.
Steve Smith
Former Australia skipper and one of the vital cogs in his side for more than the last decade, Steve Smith recently completed his Test career’s 33rd century in the ongoing third Test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Besides that, Smith is also in the third spot on the list of leading run-scorers in the WTC since the tournament’s inception five years back in 2019. He has scored 3606 runs in 82 innings, with an average of 49.39, hitting 10 centuries and 17 half-centuries, being in the fourth spot among the batters with ‘most centuries in WTC.’
Rohit Sharma
Star Indian batter and skipper Rohit Sharma is currently out of touch with the bat against Australia in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He has been struggling with the bat against the Aussie bowling attack in the current series. However, Rohit Sharma is still on the list of batters with ‘most centuries’ in WTC despite his current bad patch.
Sharma has scored 2694 runs in 67 innings, with an average of 42.76, hitting nine centuries and eight half-centuries in his WTC career. He stands fifth in this list following the former Aussie skipper Steve Smith.
