Sunrisers Hyderabad have reportedly decided on their five names to be retained ahead of IPL 2025 auctions. The 2016 IPL winners are set to retain three overseas stars and two Indian talents according to a report carried by India Today. The top pick for the men in orange is South African star Heinrich Klaasen.
According to India Today, current skipper Pat Cummins will be the second retention with Abhishek Sharma the third retention. Opening batter Travis Head and young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy will be the 4th and 5th retained stars ahead of IPL 2025 auctions.
With five stars to be retained, SRH will head into the IPL 2025 auctions with a lighter purse. The team will look to acquire a backup Indian opener with Mayank Agarwal likely to be released. The future of veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is also under the microscope with the 34-year-old having an inconsistent season earlier this year.
Sunrisers Hyderabad set to retain the core of their squad
The decision to make Heinrich Klaasen the top-paid star will be a huge boost for the South African. The 32-year-old had a great year with the bat and was instrumental in SRH reaching the finals. Klaasen is not only destructive against the spinners but also a very valuable asset behind the stumps.
Pat Cummins hasn’t yet fully committed to his participation in IPL 2025. The Australian had stated that he hadn’t made up his mind about playing the next season. SRH though will take a punt by offering him a huge salary to make himself part of the IPL 2025 season.
Young batting sensation Abhishek Sharma was one of the stars to watch out for last season. His partnerships with Travis Head helped Hyderabad to post huge scores on two occasions last year. Such performances also got Sharma a spot in the Indian side.
Australian opener Travis Head was already a surety to be retained ahead of the IPL 2025 season. His century against RCB was one of the biggest highlights of the previous season. Finally, young all-round prospect Nitish Kumar Reddy is set to be the final confirmed retention for Hyderabad after his terrific IPL 2024 campaign.
