The Pakistan Cricket team and selection committee have always attracted controversies, as no other team has. This time, former Indian batter Virender Sehwag discussed the ongoing biases and favouritism in the Pakistan selection room. As per Sehwag, now that Wahab Riaz is on the selection committee, he brought Mohammad Amir into the squad. Even though Amir did well in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, his selection is still questionable.

"Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir are the two names who used to give their opinions on Pakistan TV news channels against their national team. Now one of them is a selector and the other is in playing XI. They were criticising the team once and now when they have come to power, what are they doing?," said Sehwag as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Pakistan's World Cup journey was quite disappointing as they failed to qualify for the Super 8. The team's performance in most matches was below par, so an early exit was given. While blowing was decent, batting was no less than a blunder. Hopefully, the team's condition will improve by the next edition of the World Cup since they have qualified for the same.

Pakistan qualifies for T20 World Cup 2026

Surprisingly, even after getting disqualified from the first round of the T20 World Cup 2024, Pakistan qualifies for the upcoming edition in 2026, which is scheduled to happen in India and Sri Lanka. As per ICC's rules, teams with ICC T20I rankings will directly qualify for the World Cup along with the hosts. Since Pakistan ranks 7 in the T20I rankings table, they can qualify for the next edition.

Not only Pakistan but even New Zealand is qualifying based on their rankings despite not qualifying for the Super 8. So the teams that are qualified are India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, New Zealand, England, West Indies, Afghanistan, USA, South Africa, Australia, and Bangladesh.
