England cricket team beat India by 26 runs to win the third T20I in Rajkot and reduce series margin to 2-1 on Tuesday. Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and chose to bowl first and made just one change as Mohammed Shami came in for Arshdeep Singh. This was Shami’s first international match in 14 months. Aakash Chopra questioned coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav over the team selection.
The former India batter said, “When you are defeated, a lot of questions are asked. The team’s selection is questionable. You are playing four spinners. Washington Sundar was given one over in the third game and hasn’t done anything with the bat. You are adding firepower to the batting department without thinking about the bowling. Shivam Dube is also with the team. He was not there for the first two games but is now available.”
Varun Chakravarthy’s 5/24 went in vain as India finished with 145/9 from their 20 overs. England had scored 172 runs thanks to a half-century by Ben Duckett and 43 from Liam Livingstone, which included five towering sixes.
Akaash Chopra questions Dhruv Jurel’s batting spot
Young Dhruv Jurel was sent into bat at number eight on Tuesday with the required run-rate hitting the roof. Washington Sundar at number six played 15 balls to score just six runs before being dismissed. This move didn’t sit down well with Aakash Chopra, who slammed the team management’s decision-making.
“Dhruv Jurel is a good batter and you can’t play him at the No. 8 spot. You could have picked a pacer in his place if you wanted him to bat in the lower order." Jurel got to play just four balls in the game and scored two runs. The right-handed batter was dismissed by Brydon Carse and caught by Phil Salt as he tried to scoop the ball in the final over of the game.
Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar has slammed Abhishek Sharma for his reckless shot on Tuesday. The 24-year-old was out for 24 and caught by Jofra Archer off Carse to give England a huge wicket. Mr. Gavaskar speaking on Star Sports said, “You can call it throwing it away. He is disappointed, and he should be. Abhishek was batting so well and hit a couple of boundaries in the over, and there was no need for that kind of shot.”
