‘Such a walk in the park’ – Fans erupt with joy after India’s 7-wicket win over Sri Lanka to seal T20I series

Indian Cricket Team beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the second T20I match played on Sunday to win the series with one match left to be played on Tuesday.

The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India saw rain making it a short affair in the second innings. India were set a target of 78 runs to win from 8 overs after rain stopped the play for more than 30 minutes. 

India had bowled first after winning the toss and did well to restrict Sri Lanka to 161/9 from their 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi was the best bowler as he picked 3/26 from his 4 overs. His scalps included that of Pathum Nissanka for 32 and Dasun Shanka as well as Wanindu Hasaranga for ducks. 

Kusal Perera led the Sri Lankan charge with the bat as he was the best batter with 53 runs. The veteran Sri Lankan batter was seen in an aggressive mood right from the start of his knock. 

India thump Sri Lanka to register easy win

Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped off his 2nd ball when he mistimed a huge shot of Dasun Shanaka. The very next ball was hit for a four as the rains came falling forcing a halt to proceedings. 

Once play began once more the Indian opener hit Dasun Shanaka for yet another boundary and ended the over with 2 runs. The first ball of the second over saw Maheesh Theekshana castled Sanju Samson for a first-ball duck and gave away just 2 runs. 

The first two balls of the third over bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga were hit for a six and a four by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Suryakumar Yadav joined in the act as he hit yet another four with 16 runs being taken over off the over. 

India continued to motor on as Suryakumar Yadav hit Theekshana for 3 fours in three balls. At that stage, the equation read 36 runs from 27 balls as the home fans saw their shoulders droop. 

Suryakumar Yadav hit Pathirana for a first-ball six but fell in the very next ball as he was caught by Dasun Shanaka for 28. The next two balls were dot balls as the crowd finally found their voice. Hardik Pandya got off the mark with two runs and then got yet another single as India needed 24 runs from 18 balls. 

Wanindu Hasaranga was welcomed with a four by Hardik Pandya and on the very next ball he got a single. The third ball saw Jaiswal hit him for a huge six to make it 13 runs needed off 15 balls. Hasaranga had the last laugh as he got Jaiswal out for 30 runs with India still in command.  

The win was confirmed as 18 runs came off Hasaranga’s 2nd over. Hardik Pandya pulled him deep into the stands for a huge six to make it 6 runs needed from 12 balls. With this win, India takes an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series with the final game to be played on Tuesday.
