The Indian Cricket team began its tenure under Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav at the helm on Saturday. Star all-rounder Axar Patel, speaking to the media at the end of the game on Saturday, praised the new management. Team India took a 1-0 lead in the series after their win over the hosts.

Suryakumar Yadav scored a fifty on his captaincy debut and saw his side win by 43 runs. Axar Patel played a key role with the bat and ball as he scored 10 runs and picked 2 wickets.

Patel, while speaking to the media, said, “I have been playing for 10 years. I have played with different coaches and captains. I don't think a lot will change in the team”. This is the first time that Gautam Gambhir is coaching the national side while Suryakumar Yadav is being given the captaincy on a full-time basis.

Axar Patel revels under pressure

30-year-old Axar Patel has been given the role of the leading all-rounder since the retirement of Ravindra Jadeja. The Indian star, while speaking to the media, said, “When we were talking in the team meeting, they also said the same thing that the coach and captain keep changing but the team remains the same and the 11 or 15 players who stay, they have to do it.”

Axar Patel also said, “They have told us that we will play the way we have been playing. Obviously, the coach and his input can be different. The thinking can be different, they keep telling you here and there. But there is not much change in the team's atmosphere/”

India's all-round star Axar Patel added, “When you continuously play cricket for India and when you do well in pressure situations, you get some confidence. And each time you get confidence, you always learn from it. It's not that you'll always do well in pressure situations and you might fail as well. But those situations teach you that I could have done things differently and that has taught me a lot in the last one year especially."

"So when I do well in those situations, my confidence grows and when such situations arise again, I don't get bogged down nor do I think 'oh I need to do this, I need to do that.' I focus a lot more on my strengths and I think that is really helping me. When you keep doing well, your confidence keeps building. One month ago, I did well in the World Cup and I'm carrying that confidence too which is reaping its benefits," added Axar Patel.
