The start of the Champions Trophy 2025 hasn’t been great for defending champions Pakistan after losing to New Zealand. Mohammad Rizwan and his side lost the opening game by 60 runs. The next game for Pakistan is the massive encounter against India on Sunday, which is to be played in Dubai. If Rizwan’s side loses the game, they will be out of the tournament with one more game left against Bangladesh.
Shoaib Malik and Shoaib Akhtar discussed Pakistan’s chances in the coming game on the latter’s YouTube Channel. The former Pakistani duo believe that the Men in Green can still win the game and keep their hopes alive in the tournament. The game on Sunday will be the fifth time both sides meet with India and Pakistan winning two each.
Indian Express quoted Shoaib Malik as saying “I’m very hopeful that we still have a chance to beat India in our next match. And then we will continue our match with Bangladesh. Of course, morale is down. Confidence is down. But I think the character is still there,"
‘We have that potential to win’ – Former Pakistan stars on game vs India
Speaking to his former teammate Shoaib Akhtar, the former Pakistan skipper said, “And we have that potential in our team to win against India. And I’m very hopeful. But now it’s their responsibility. The seniors will have to step up. Because it will be a pressure game. And for you, it’s a do-or-die game. Imagine if someone wins a game, do-or-die against India will become an instant superstar. So, I think opportunity is there. There is pressure, but opportunity. Take it as an opportunity.”
The two former Pakistani players also spoke about their team’s loss to New Zealand on Wednesday. “Shoaib Akhtar was heard saying, ‘Overall, it was a very disappointing performance. If we look at the technical side, there are a lot of things. I think the process of the planning is a bit lacking. And moving forward, I think now you’ve put yourself in a difficult spot."
Pakistan’s former speed sensation ended by saying “If you had played it like a do-or-die game, it would have been different. If you had done good fielding, or if you had put in more effort in the fielding, then it would have been a different story.”
