The Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged under ICC's three counts of the anti-corruption code relating to corrupt approaches in international matches and the Lanka Premier League. He also failed to report match-fixing approaches and obstructing an investigation by deleting relevant messages. Jayawickrama is given 14 days starting from August 6.

"Reportedly, the Sri Lanka bowler was found to have deleted messages related to the approach for conducting

corrupt practices. "Following Articles 1.7.4.1 and 1.8.1 of the Code, Sri Lanka and the ICC have agreed that the ICC will take action concerning the Lanka Premier League charge alongside the International Match charges," read the ICC statement," stated the ICC.

Jayawickrama debuted in Test cricket in 2021 and played five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is. However, he played his last game against Australia in 2022. He has been playing in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) since the start, and in 2024, he was a part of the Dambulla Sixers.

Sri Lanka creates history after winning series against India

After 27 years, Sri Lanka have finally beaten India in the ODI series, 2-0. They gave a tough fight to the Indian team in terms of batting, bowling, and fielding. The batters were exceptional in all the games, while the spinners gave it all. They managed to win the last ODI by 110 runs, which is quite impressive. Moreover, Indian batters didn't know what happened in the 3rd ODI, which was disappointing.

This isn't the kind of series Gautam Gambhir and Co. were expecting. After winning the T20I series, Indian players would have thought of winning the series quite easily, but that didn't happen. Now, they have a gap and will be training hard for the upcoming matches.
