Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost their seventh match of IPL 2025 season this time to Gujarat Titans (GT) on Friday night in Ahmedabad. Pat Cummins and his side began the day with six points from nine games and needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The loss to GT on Friday by 38 runs has made the task even more difficult for IPL 2024 runner-up side.

The Titans batted first and amassed a massive total of 224 runs on the board from their 20 overs. The batting charge was led by Shubman Gill’s brutal knock off 76 and Jos Buttler’s 64. Opener Sai Sudharsan laid the early charge with his brilliant 48 runs from 23 balls and Washington Sundar’s 21 off 16 balls.

In reply, Abhishek Sharma scored 41-ball 74 and waged a lone battle with the bat. Once the left-handed batter was out in the final ball of the 15th over the writing was on the wall for the visiting side. Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy, and Pat Cummins did their best but the target was way too much for SRH to chase down.

Here is how Sunrisers Hyderabad can still qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs:

The loss to Gujarat on Friday has left SRH 10th in the table with six points and just four games to play. Their run-rate is -1.192 which is the second worst at this stage of the tournament after Chennai Super Kings. One more loss for SRH will spell an end to their campaign and wins in next four games won’t guarantee SRH playoff spot either.

Matches left for SRH

Vs Delhi Capitals – Home – 5th May 2025

Vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Home – 10th May 2025

Vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru – Away – 13th May 2025

Vs Lucknow Super Giants – Away – 18th May 2025

Likely scenarios for SRH to qualify

Win all four games – 14 points- SRH has to beat both Delhi and Lucknow in their games and hope that DC wins just one game out of the four left and LSG lose all their four games. Apart from this SRH also has to win each of the matches with a huge margin. Punjab Kings also have to lose each other their final four games so that SRH can sneak through as the fourth placed team in the table.

Even if SRH lose one game in the last four matches left they will be eliminated. Punjab Kings who have 13 points cannot be overhauled even if the other result go in SRH’ favor. Pat Cummins and his side are on the edge at the moment and their hopes are hanging on by the barest of margins. Their only chance is to win all four games and leave the rest onto their fate.
