Veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket on Saturday (August 24). The left-hander last played for India in the 2022 ODI series before losing his place to Shubman Gill. He has been absent from Team India's plans in recent times and his retirement does not come as a surprise to fans.
Known as Mr. ICC, Dhawan has been a consistent performer for the national team, especially in major tournaments. The 38-year-old has represented the Men in Blue in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20Is, scoring 2315, 6793 and 1759 runs respectively. Notably, he was the Player of the Series in the 2013 Champions Trophy, in which India won their fourth ICC title. Dhawan is also the highest run-scorer for India in the 2017 Champions Trophy and 2015 ODI World Cup.
