Indian cricket star Sanju Samson has earned the wrath of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The 30-year-old is likely to be ignored for the ODI series against England and the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 tournament. This move comes after Samson didn’t play the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament for Kerala.

One BCCI source while speaking to Times of India newspaper revealed “The selectors and the board have been very clear on the importance of domestic cricket. Last year, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer lost central contracts for missing domestic matches without seeking permission”.

The unnamed source also added, “Even in Samson’s case, the board and selectors weren’t given a reason, why he missed the tournament. All that is known so far is that he spends much of his time in Dubai”. The 30-year-old played the last of his 16 ODI matches for India during the 2023 tour of South Africa where he scored a match-winning century.

Sanju Samson’s hopes of ODI recall set to vanish?

During the chat with Times of India, the BCCI source said “The selectors, want a valid reason. Otherwise, it will be difficult to consider him for the ODI season. Samson has had a bitter history with Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), but that needs to be sorted out for him to play in domestic cricket”

“It can’t be that the state association and him (Samson) have a misunderstanding, and he misses out on game time. He did play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy preceding the Vijay Hazare Trophy” the BCCI source ended by saying to the Times of India about Sanju Samson.

30-year-old Samson has played 16 ODI matches for India scoring 510 runs with one century and three fifties. The right-handed batter has an average of 56 with a strike rate of 99.6 since his debut in the ODI format against Sri Lanka in 2021. Last year, Samson was one of the best batters for India in the T20I format.

Indian selectors have named Sanju Samson in the squad for the five-match T20I series against England. The 30-year-old played 13 T20I matches for India last year scoring 436 runs with three centuries and one fifty. Samson ended the year with an average of 43.6 and had a strike rate of 180.
