Rajasthan Royals are facing Punjab Kings and captain Sanju Samson took a brave and selfless decision in his first game back from injury in the IPL 2025. During the toss, he decided to drop down the batting order and let 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi play as opener. Samson took Nitish Rana's spot in the starting lineup and took over as captain from Riyan Parag, who had been in charge during his absence.
The match against Punjab Kings is a comeback match for Sanju Samson from his injury. Samson emphasised that Suryavanshi's outstanding performances this season had given him the right to continue playing at the top of the order. Samson was the first choice opener for Rajasthan Royals, but during his recovery time he watched Vaibhav batting skills from the dugout.
After losing the toss to Punjab Kings, Sanju Samson was asked about the batting order, to which he said, "I think if someone has done something extraordinary, you have to respect that no matter his age. Definitely would like to respect that and I will come down the order.” Samson's demonstration of faith in the youthful opener, though, may be crucial in giving him the confidence he needs as the Royals try to close out the season well.

Sanju Samson's comeback boost RR morale
The youngster smashed a century off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans and made his name in the biggest cricket league. In recent games, Suryavanshi's form has slightly declined despite his spectacular start. He made just 4 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders and was out for a duck against the Mumbai Indians. For Rajasthan Royals the game is meaningless as they are already eliminated from the race playoffs.
However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's form and growth continue to be important advantages for a side hoping to build for the future. Samson's comeback gives a team that has battled with inconsistency in the second part of the competition stability and leadership. Despite the fact that the Royals have little chance of qualifying, they are now more concerned with regaining prestige and developing young players like Suryavanshi, whose IPL career is only getting started.
