It was great start to the T20 World Cup 2024 campaign for Namibia as Ruben Trumpelmann did the star turn with the ball. The left-arm pacer picked 4/21 to bowl out Oman for just 109 runs in the final over of the innings. This was also the first time that Namibia had taken all ten wickets in the T20 World Cup.

Gerhard Erasmus had won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first. Oman batters had no answer to the accurate bowling from the Namibian bowlers as they struggled to get going with the bat.

Apart from Khalid Kail none of the batters could put up a fight before being bowled out. Namibia and Oman are in the same group as Scotland along with defending champions England and current ODI World Cup winners Australia.

Namibia fold Oman for a paltry score

Ruben Trumpelmann began the proceedings by dismissing K Prajapati in the very first ball of the game. Aqib Ilyas fell the very next ball to leave Oman reeling at 0/2 after the first two balls of the contest.

Zeeshan Maqsood scored 22 runs from 20 balls with four hits to the fence to give Oman some hope of a fight back. That hope was ended when the left-handed batter was trapped LBW by Bernard Scholtz.

Ayaan Khan and Khalid Kail added 31 runs for the 5th wicket before Ayaan Khan was dismissed by the Namibian skipper. Veteran David Wiese then struck the biggest blow when he had the wicket of Khalid Kail as Wiese took an easy return catch. Khalid Kail was the best batter scoring 34 runs from 39 balls with one four and one six in his knock.

Shakeel Ahmed scored 11 runs to help Oman get past the 100-run mark before he became the 3rd wicket of the day for David Wiese. Ruben Trumpelmann ended with 4/21 while David Wiese picked 3/28 with Gerhard Erasmus picking 2/20 from his 4 overs. This was one of the best performances by Namibia in their history of T20 World Cup so far.

Chasing 110 to win, Namibia lost the wicket of Michael Van Lingen for a 2nd ball duck to give Oman some hope. Bilal Khan was the wicket-taker as the Barbados pitch seemed to have a lot in it for the bowlers.
