Indian skipper Rohit Sharma set the record straight about his future in ODI cricket. Ahead of the final there were rumors that the 37-year-old was most likely to hang up his boots from the format. The speculation took new turn when Rohit didn’t come out to address the media just before the finals with Shubman Gill taking the questions.

Speaking during the media interaction, Rohit said, “One more thing. I'm not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread moving forward”. This will be seen as a huge statement of intent from Rohit who could be next targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup.

This was the fourth successive ICC final that Rohit was leading India in. After tasting losses in the 2023 World Test Championships and ODI World Cups, Rohit was finally able to end the wait for an ICC title. In 2024, India won the T20 World Cup title their first in 17 years and now they have won the Champions Trophy after 12 years.

Indian skipper speaks about the future to the media

When Rohit Sharma was asked to speak about the future the 37-year-old said, “No future plan, whatever is happening will continue.” The statement was a clear response that the 37-year-old is targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. By the time the next tournament arrives, Rohit will be 40-years-old.

In his chat with the media, Indian skipper remarked, “I scored heavily in the 2019 World Cup but maza nahi aaya. The team didn’t win. When the team wins, and you make a contribution, it gives you satisfaction. I am clear in my mind how I want to bat, and that is what am trying to do.”

In a tense chase, Indiua skipper Rohit yet again took charge and went after the bowling. The right-handed batter was at his best as he charged down the track and hit the pacers over the top. This included a huge six in the very second ball of the chase off Jamieson and two more sixes off Nathan Smith enroute to his match winning 76-run knock.
