The 37-year-old was the best batter for India scoring 76 runs in the finals of the tournament. Rohit along with opener and vice-captain Shubman Gill added 105 runs for the first wicket in pursuit of the 252-run target set by New Zealand. Rohit fell at a crucial juncture after he was stumped by Tom Latham off Rachin Ravindra.

Team India ended the tournament on a high after staying unbeaten on their way to win the title. Rohit also answered his critics who had been questioning him over his spot in the team amidst his batting form. ‘Wanted to try and do something different’ – Rohit Sharma

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was named man of the match for his efforts with the bat. The 37-year-old became the second Indian skipper to be given player of the match in an ICC final. MS Dhoni was the first to achieve this feat for his 91 in the ICC ODI World Cup final in 2011 for scoring 91 runs.

Speaking to the host broadcasters during the post-match ceremony, Rohit said, “It is very nice. We played some really good cricket whole through the tournament, to come out here and having the result our way is a great feeling, very very happy with how we played this game.”

When asked about his attacking form with the bat, Rohit said, “It's all about getting the backing of the team and the management as well. It's something I really wanted to do. I have played all these years in a different style, but I wanted to try and do something different, try and see if we can play differently and get the results that we were looking for.”
