Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli missing from Duleep Trophy squads announced by BCCI on Wednesday

The Board of Control for Cricket in India named the four teams for the Duleep Trophy 2024 tournament. The teams were divided into India A, India B, India C, and India D. one of the biggest talking points was the non-inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in either of the teams. 

It was reported earlier this week that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be playing the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin haven’t been considered as they BCCI wants to manage the workload for the duo. 

Duleep Trophy 2024 is set to start on the 5th of September with Team A set to take on Team B. The other game will be played between Team C and Team D as a host of star names are set to be part of the event. 

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not named in the Duleep Trophy teams

In a massive move, the BCCI has named the four teams to play the Duleep Trophy 2024 tournament. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli haven’t been named in any of the four teams for the tournament which begins on 5th September. 

The official Instagram handle of the Indian Cricket Team wrote, “Squads for the first round of  Duleep Trophy 2024-25 announced. 1. The athletes who will be selected to represent India for the home Test series against Bangladesh will be replaced in the Duleep Trophy.”

The Instagram handle also added, “Nitish Kumar Reddy’s participation in the Duleep Trophy is subject to fitness”. It was also announced that Umran Malik might miss a few games as he is down with Dengue. 

India A will be led by Shubman Gill, while stars like KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, and Akash Deep have been included. Abhimanyu Eeswaran will be leading the India B squad with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant being joined by brothers Sarfaraz and Musheer Khan. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer will be leading the India C and India D teams with some fringe players in the team. Mohammed Shami hasn’t been named in any of the squads while veteran stars like Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been ignored. 

India A – Shubman Gill (Captain), Mayank Agarwal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, KL Rahul, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Tanush Kotian, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan, V. Kaverappa, Kumar Kushagra, and Shashank Rawat. 

India B – Abhimanyu Eeswaran (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Dayal, Mukesh Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Sai Kishore, Mohit Awasthi, and N. Jagadeesan

India C – Ruturaj Gaikwad (Captain), Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Abhishek Porel, Suryakumar Yadav, B Indrajith, Hrithik Shookeen, Umran Malik, Manav Suthar, V Vijaykumar, Anshul Kambhoj, Mayank Markande, Himanshu Chauhan, Aryan Juyal, Sandeep Warrier. 

India D – Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Atharva Taide, Yash Dubey, Devdutt Padikkal, Ishan Kishan, Ricky Bhui, Saransh Jain, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Aditya Thakare, Harshit Rana, Tushar Deshpande, Akash Sengupta, KS Bharat, and Saurabh Kumar.
