Former Indian legendary star Yuvraj Singh was a guest on the Club Prairie Fire podcast. The podcast also featured former star players like Michael Vaughan and Adam Gilchrist. During the conversation, Yuvraj was asked to name who he would play, sell or bench amongst Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
The former Indian star said, “I would play Rohit Sharma as he is one of the best batters in T20 cricket and bats aggressively. Rohit is a quality captain and has been successful as a leader”. India’s legendary all-rounder though refrained from naming the players he would bench and sell.
Yuvraj said on the podcast, “I would bench myself as naming one between Virat and Dhoni would be in the headlines. I don’t want that to happen”.
Just a few days ago, it was reported that Michael Vaughan had said that he will play MS Dhoni. The former England skipper also said he will sell Virat Kohli and bench Rohit Sharma.
Yuvraj Singh takes his pick between Root and Kohli for World XI spot
Over the last few years, England batter Joe Root has emerged as a genuine contender to be called the best in the current era. Yuvraj Singh was asked to name between Joe Root and Virat Kohli to name in a hypothetical World XI team.
The former Indian star replied, “If you ask me on form basis, it would be Joe Root. But I would also look at the venue and the country. If it is England, Root would make it to my World XI. Elsewhere, I am going with Virat. Root has been unstoppable in Test cricket and is scoring runs against every team. He is good in Test, but when it comes to all formats, Virat is ahead”
During the podcast, Yuvraj was asked to name the real hero of the 2011 ODI World Cup. The left-handed batter and spin bowler had played a key role for his side to win their 2nd ODI World title.
Answering this, Yuvraj said, “I think I got on the side when Saurav was the captain and he kind of like gave us a lot of confidence in terms of and a lot of chances because we were younger, we were not consistent. Like myself, Sehwag and a couple of other young guys, Bhajji and Zaheer Khan. So he kind of stuck to us for a bit because he knew that these guys could be matched when he's in the future. And then obviously the team went to Rahul for a bit and then to Dhoni."
The former Indian star also added during the podcast and said, “So I think when the team went to Dhoni, we had a really good coach, Gary Kirsten, who made us believe that we can actually win the World Cup be the number one test side. So it was, and obviously, Dhoni was a good captain as well. Saurav was more of being aggressive and trying to take teams head-on. And what I liked about Dhoni was that MS had already had a plan B. Like if plan A doesn't work, go to plan B.”
