Rishabh Pant breaks all records in the mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to become the costliest player in the history of the tournament. LSG brought the player for a whopping amount of INR 27 crores. This means that Pant will be donning a new jersey in the upcoming IPL season. LSG were in search of a captaincy candidate and with Pant in the team, their dreams have been fulfilled.
There was a twist in the tale in the middle of the auction as the Delhi Capitals wanted to use their RTM card for Pant when the bid stood at INR 20.75. LSG were given a chance to quote their price which was INR 27 crores. However, DC chose to not go forward with the RTM option due to the high price. LSG management was looking happy after buying the player.
Pant was the captain of DC in the IPL 2024. After coming from a life-threatening injury, Pant played his first game in the IPL after a long gap. He couldn't do much in the tournament as a player but was terrific with the captaincy. Hence, LSG will definitely show faith in him for the captain.
Shreyas Iyer goes to PBKS for INR 26.75 crores
Shreyas Iyer became the second-highest player in the IPL auction. PBKS brought the player for a massive amount of INR 26.75 crores. Before Rishabh Pant, Iyer was the costliest player but the keeper-batter broke his record within minutes. This has got to be the craziest IPL auction where franchises are targetting players as per their requirements.
The need for a captaincy candidate has encouraged the franchises to bid for more amount without thinking about the entire squad and their purse value. However, PBKS had the highest purse, so buying Iyer wasn't a big deal for them. The fiery fight between DC and PBKS was thrilling to watch as they weren't putting their bid down. PBKS was ready to go to any extent to get the player as Iyer is in contention for captaincy.
