Shreyas Iyer becomes the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Punjab Kings (PBKS) grabs the player during the ongoing IPL mega auction. The fiery bid was between Delhi Capitals (DC) and PBKS, but as the price reached INR 26.75 crores, as DC backed out, handling the player to PBKS. Having the highest purse of the auction and looking for a captaincy candidate, PBKS looked desperate to get Iyer into their team.

Iyer was the former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and won the trophy in IPL 2024 after ten long years. However, the player decided to part ways with the team and participate in the mega auction. His decision turned fruitful as he became the costliest player of the tournament. Punjab Kings will be happy to have him and try him out as their captain in the 18th season.

PBKS is one of the most unfortunate teams who haven't won a single trophy yet. Despite having tons of brilliant players in the squad over the years, the team could only reach the finals once where they lost to KKR in IPL 2014. That was an outstanding season for them but they failed to win in the finals.

PBKS uses RTM to get Arshdeep Singh back into their team for IPL 2025

Arshdeep Singh was the first player to come under the hammer in the ongoing IPL mega auction. After a period of silence for some time, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started their bid at the base price of INR 2 crores. Then DC started their bid and CSK had to back out due to less purse value. Later, GT jumped in and raised the price. Then RCB, RR, and SRH also jumped in, bidding for the pace bowler.

After bidding for sometime, SRH ended up at 15.75 crores but PBKS used their RTM card to retain the player. Later, SRH quoted a price of INR 18 crores for PBKS and they took it. So, Arshdeep Singh returned to his den, where he belonged.
