Greater Noida has come under fire as play didn’t start on time for the 2nd day between Afghanistan and New Zealand. The entire opening day of the Test match was washed out due to a wet outfield on the opening day of the game.

After the first day was abandoned, there were hopes that the second day would begin on time. The overnight shower meant that the game saw yet another late start to the day. Lunch was taken early as the players just made their way to the ground post 12:30 PM local time.

Many fans took to social media to slam the abysmal facilities at the Greater Noida ground. The situation was so bad that the ground staff were seen cutting the grass from the practice facilities to make the stadium ready.

The Afghanistan team angry with the conditions

After the first day of the Test Match was abandoned, Afghanistan have now decided to ditch the Greater Noida facility. Sports Tak put out a report on Monday about the move from the Afghan side which is the home team for the game.

“There are no facilities. We will never come here again. Our preference will be Lucknow. There are no basic facilities. There is complete mismanagement at the venue. Even the players are not happy with food, training facilities and everything," Sports Tak quoted an official from the Afghanistan side.

Afghanistan skipper Hasmatullah Shahidi has requested the BCCI to give a better ground to play on. The Afghan skipper said, “If you see, India is our home and when we host teams, the other nations have played more cricket than us here. So hopefully we will get one good venue here in India and we stick with that. If we stick with one venue, it will be more effective for us.”

Hasmatullah Shahidi also said, “And one more thing, if you see our players, they have a good record in first-class cricket because we play in our own grounds [in Afghanistan]. We know our own conditions very well. So hopefully the time comes in future teams come to Afghanistan. Then our average will be even higher than what it is right now and hopefully, our cricket board and BCCI give a good venue for us in India and we play a lot of cricket in one venue."
