There's a good news for the Indian fans as skipper Rohit Sharma might make himself available for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, which starts in August 2024. Moreover, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will most likely return to the ODI squad for the series. Hardik Pandya will miss the ODI series but will join the T20I series against Sri Lanka.

If Rohit returns, he'll be captaining the series. KL Rahul will take up the captaincy role if he misses the series. While Rohit's return isn't confirmed yet, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah haven't made themselves available for the series. They are on a break and might return for the series to be played after that.

This is a busy year for India as they'll travel to Bangladesh, Australia, and many other countries to play ODI and Test series. Rohit Sharma is one of the best players and is currently in the US for a brand promotion. His captaincy has impacted the team well, leading to one ICC trophy after 11 years.

SKY would be the potential leader: A BCCI source

Suryakumar Yadav is up for a new task as he might be given the captaincy of the T20 team, starting from the Sri Lanka series. Even though Hardik Pandya is completely fit and will be available for the series, SKY will be handed over the captaincy to maintain stability in the team, as per reports. For the ODI captaincy, BCCI is keeping an eye on KL Rahul and Shubman Gill in the absence of Rohit Sharma.

"Hardik Pandya was India’s T2O vice-captain under Rohit Sharma. He is completely fit and available for the three-match T20I series and was supposed to lead the side but there is a very strong feeling that SKY would be the potential leader not only for the Sri Lanka series but till the 2026 World Cup," said a BCCI source.
