Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had a meeting with all the franchise members regarding the rules and policies of the tournament. While the Board hasn't revealed any insights from the meeting or come to any conclusion, reports suggest that the RTM card rule will be continued in the upcoming auction.

As per reports, the Board has formally proposed four retentions and two RTMs for every team ahead of IPL 2025. The franchise owners were against fewer retentions and had a fair point, which stated that it takes a lot of time to build a team, and the mega auctions break the momentum. However, the Board is against having many retentions since the purpose of the league will be lost.

Other policies were discussed in the meeting, including the Impact Sub Rule. While players like Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Siraj have opposed the rule, the Board is keen to have it during the IPL to increase the fun and excitement of the tournament. The Impact Sub-rule gives the all-rounders less opportunity, which is a disadvantage for them. However, the Board hasn't revealed any information regarding the same.

IPL 2025 mega auction to be held in December

The tentative date for the IPL 2025 mega auction is December 2024. While the players will be busy playing against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the franchise owners will be deciding their future sitting on a round table. The mega auction will be fun to watch since the franchise owners will be keen to make the best out of the opportunity.

Moreover, some brilliant players will come to the auction, and the franchise will bid on them until the last penny. As per reports, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma might leave their present franchises and look for better options. There will be teams like Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings who will be looking forward to building a strong team this year to end the trophy curse.
