India lost the 2025 Test series against South Africa 0-2, which included the biggest defeat at home in terms of number of runs in Guwahati. As questions were asked about Gautam Gambhir's coaching, his tenure's future was debated. However, a report from Express Sports has claimed that Gambhir will continue as the Indian Head Coach till the end of his tenure.
As per the report, there will be no action taken against the Indian Head Coach for the team's recent failure against South Africa in Tests. Given the fact that Gambhir's tenure is till 2027, the report claimed that the BCCI has no interest in making any change in regard to his stint.

As the T20 World Cup 2026 is approaching and the ODI World Cup 2027 is a high priority for the Indian management, the report claimed that the focus is to have a stable dressing room. If its source is to be believed, Gambhir is likely to continue as the Indian Coach, going forward.
India's performances under Gautam Gambhir's Coaching tenure since 2024
Gambhir's tenure as the Indian Head Coach has been a mixed bag. While the team has done very well under him in the white-ball format, the Test team has been horrible. Hence, there were calls for a split coaching, given that the Indian Test team has been in turmoil.
Since Gambhir took over, India has lost all of its home Tests against New Zealand and South Africa, along with an away BGT series loss. However, in LOIs, India won the Champions Trophy 2025, the Asia Cup, and several other bilateral series, making them one of the best sides in the world in the white-ball format.
