Under Gautam Gambhir, India has lost Test series at home against New Zealand and South Africa since he took over in mid-2024. Gambhir's first assignment as the Test coach went well against Bangladesh. India won both in Chennai and Kanpur, which was seen as the start of a good period. What followed was absolutely shocking, as New Zealand hammered India 3-0 for the first time in the history of Tests.

India lost all three Tests of the series in Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai, respectively. A few weeks later, India toured Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While India won in Sydney, they lost in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney to lose the series 1-3.

India's record in Tests in 2025 under Gautam Gambhir

India's best Test series result under Gambhir was a 2-2 draw in England in mid-2025. While India lost in Leeds and Lord's, they won in Birmingham and The Oval. England drew the match in Manchester. India's next assignment was at home against the West Indies. As expected, India hardly broke a sweat and won the series 2-0.

After India's win in Ahmedabad and Delhi, their next challenge was tough against the WTC 2025 winners, South Africa. However, India crumbled badly and lost both matches of the series. They first lost in Kolkata by 30 runs and suffered the biggest loss at home in the history of Tests by 408 runs in Guwahati.
