"Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today," Ashwin wrote about his retirement from IPL.

"Would like to thank all the franchisees for all the wonderful memories and relationships over the years, and most importantly, the IPL and the BCCI for what they have given me until now. Look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me," Ashwin added.

Ravichandran Ashwin's performances for CSK in the IPL

Ashwin's IPL career started in 2009, and he played a solitary match for CSK. From 2010 to 2015, he was an integral part of CSK, helping them win two IPL and CLT20 titles, respectively. His best season was 2011, where he claimed 20 wickets in 16 innings, at an average of 19.40, at an economy of 6.16, including 3/16 in the final.

His best performances came for CSK, for whom he claimed 97 wickets in 103 innings at an average of 25.39. He played for other teams like RR, RPS, PBKS, and DC. However, he was not a wicket-taking option like he used to be for CSK, but maintained his economy well.
