The 90th season of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 is set to start on October 11, Friday and will continue up to March 2, 2025. After the Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup, now the main domestic tournament will start, in which a lot of star players participate. This time, the Board has changed the schedule for the white-ball tournaments, the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20), which will be played in the middle of the first-class season.
The first half of the Ranji Trophy will be played until November 13, and the next half will resume on January 23. Moreover, the knockout stages of the Elite group will start from February 8 and the plate group's knockout tournament will be separate.
Additionally, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is scheduled between the round-breaks of the Ranji season from November 23 to December 15. Likewise, the Vijay Hazare Trophy will take place from December 21 to January 18, 2025.
What is the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 format?
The Ranji Trophy tournament is divided into five groups where 38 teams are placed, and matches are held accordingly. There will be 8 teams each in four Elite groups, and the remaining six teams will be in plate groups. The format is simple. All the teams will play matches against their group members, and the finalists from the Plate group will be promoted to the Elite group for the upcoming season.
However, the two teams from the Elite groups, which will finish in the last two positions, will be demoted to the Plate group for the upcoming season. The top two teams from the Elite group will qualify for the knockouts.
