Ajinkya Rahane-led Mumbai won their 15th Irani Cup after the match against the Rest of India ended in a draw. Mumbai laid their hands on the trophy after 27 years of waiting. The players seemed extremely happy and ecstatic after winning the cup. Rahane was the happiest person as he led Mumbai to their Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup victory in the same year.

Rest of India led by Ruturaj Gaikwad did a fair job after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. They dismissed the top order and left Mumbai shattered at 37-3. However, the tables turned when skipper Rahane and Shreyas Iyer formed a partnership of around 100 runs. After that, Sarfaraz Khan wreaked havoc on the ROI bowlers as he scored 222 runs off 286 balls.

For ROI, Abhimanyu Eashwaran scored 191 runs off 292 balls and Dhruv Jurel scored 93 runs off 121 balls and tried their level best to take a lead but failed massively as the entire batting lineup collapsed like a pack of cards. Mumbai took the lead in the 1st innings and hence, declared the winner of the Irani Cup 2024 as per the domestic matches rules.

I promised at home that I will make a hundred for Musheer: Sarfaraz Khan

The doube-centurion of the match, Sarfaraz Khan talked about his performance in the game and also mentioned his younger brother Musheer Khan who went through an unfortunate accident earlier this month. Sarfaraz dedicated his double century to his brother and was proud of the fact that he promised to score a century and he did it.

"One has to work all-around at their game, look at how the seniors are doing and also I need to work on my weaknesses. This trophy is the team's but I promised at home that I will make a hundred for Musheer who suffered an accident and this is for him," said Sarfaraz Khan.
