Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan invited his elder brother Yusuf for a chat on his show ‘Seedhi Baat with Irfan Pathan' on his YouTube channel. The 40-year-old began by speaking about Rajasthan Royals (RR) youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was in the news earlier this week. The 14-year-old batter became the youngest batter to score a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 35-ball ton also became the fastest IPL ton scored by an Indian batter and the second-fastest overall.

Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball ton for RR against Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2010 game was the previous best. Chris Gayle is still the record holder for the fastest IPL ton, which came off 30 balls in the 2013 season. The former West Indian star scored 175 not out for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India.

Irfan Pathan started the show by asking his brother, “How does it feel when a 14-year-old kid, that too an Indian kid, has broken your record for fastest IPL century?”. Replying to this, Yusuf Pathan said, “The way Vaibhav Suryavanshi batted to break my record, it makes me proud. I am also proud because that record was broken by an Indian player, and that too by a player who is just 14 years old. I am also proud that the record belongs to an Indian”.

Yusuf Pathan reveals his conversation with young batter after his knock

When asked by Irfan Pathan if Yusuf spoke to the player after the tremendous knock, the former India player replied, “Indeed, I got a chance to speak to him (Suryavanshi) through the RR team manager. I couldn’t wait to speak to him because the achievement was so huge”

Yusuf Pathan also said that it was pleasing to see a player from the same team that he once represented achieve the feat. “It was necessary for me to reach out to a player who had achieved such a feat, and a young 14-year-old achieving such a feat, and that too playing for the same team (RR) where I spent three seasons. It was a proud moment for me, and I called the youngster to wish him on this amazing knock.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be in action once again on Thursday as RR take on Mumbai Indians at home. Riyan Parag and his side still have a slim mathematical chance of making it to the playoffs if they win their last four games. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, could top the table if they beat Rajasthan Royals and could be on the cusp of making it to the playoffs.
