Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi put the world on notice with his blazing blade on Monday night. The left-handed batter scored his first fifty in the IPL off just 17 balls in the game against Gujarat Titans (GT). The 14-year-old became the youngest batter in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) to score a century/half century.

Suryavanshi became the youngest batter to score a century in T20 Cricket as well as in the IPL. The 14-year-old scored his century off just 35 balls with a huge six off Rashid Khan’s bowling in the second ball of the 11th over. Once the century was scored, Suryavanshi pulled off his helmet and acknowledged the cheer he got from the crowd. Yashasvi Jaiswal went up to the batter and was the first to congratulate him and gave his partner a tight hug.
The 35 ball ton was also the fastest by an Indian batter surpassing the 37-ball century by Yusuf Pathan against Mumbai Indians in 2010. The previous youngest batter to score a century in T20 cricket was French batter Gustav McKeon against Switzerland in 2022 at the age of 18 years and 280 days. Suryavanshi got to his century at the of 14 years and 32 days.

Gujarat Titans batted first and scored 209 runs on the board thanks to fifties from Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler. Needing a good start, Suryavanshi began his innings with a six off Mohammed Siraj. The left-handed batter then went after Ishant Sharma hitting the veteran seamer for three sixes and two fours in an over.
The carnage didn’t stop as the young batter hit Washington Sundar for two sixes and one boundary to reach his fifty. That half-century came off just 17 balls which made Suryavanshi the youngest ever to score an IPL fifty. The previous record was held by Riyan Parag who got to the mark at the age of 17 years and 175 days. The other batters to achieve this feat were Prithvi Shaw (18 years 169 days) and Sanju Samson (18 years and 169 days).
