The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squad for the 1st Test of the 2-match series against Bangladesh on September 8. The first Test will take place on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. 16 players have been named for the 1st Test, however, it will be interesting to see who will make it to the playing 11.

Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal received his maiden Test call-up while Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli are set to make their comeback in red-ball Cricket. However, there are a few exclusions as well which surprised the fans. One of the players whose exclusion has led to some backlash from the fans is Ruturaj Gaikwad. The right-handed opening batter recently led India C to victory in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. He scored 5 and 46 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively.

What could be the reason for Gaikwad not getting selected?

Gaikwad has a tremendous record in the domestic circuit, having an average of 42.69 with tons of runs, it was quite disappointing for his fans as they won’t get to see him in India’s Test jersey anytime soon. Gaikwad plays at the opening position and there are already 3 openers named in the squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings with skipper Rohit Sharma as Shubman Gill has wished to bat at no. 3 position. 

By the looks of it, we can say that Gaikwad’s fans will have to wait more to see him in India’s Test squad. However, there are possibilities of him getting selected in the limited-over series against Bangladesh. He was last appeared in an international during the Zimbabwe vs India T20I series where he had some decent outing with his bat.
