Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi is on the verge of becoming the next president of the Asian Cricket Council. The post is currently held by Jay Shah and it is expected that Mohsin Naqvi will be confirmed as the new head of ACC. According to reports, Naqvi will be at the helm for two years.

A source, while speaking to the media, said, “When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term. When Shah steps down the PCB chief will take over.”

It will be interesting as the BCCI and PCB have been on a collision course over the formers participation in Champions Trophy 2025. India were announced as the host of the Asia Cup 2025, which is to be played in the T20 format. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will host the event in 2027 in the ODI format.

BCCI and PCB set for another collision course?

With India refusing to tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy there are fears that the two boards could collide yet again. With Mohsin Naqvi taking over as the ACC chief soon, there are thoughts that Pakistan could reciprocate by deciding not to tour India for the 2025 Asia Cup.

India will be hosting the event for the first time in 35 years after the hosts for the next two editions were confirmed on Monday. India had insisted that the 2023 Asia Cup tournament be played in a Hybrid model.

Mohsin Naqvi has been under tremendous pressure to make sure India visits Pakistan for the first time in 16 years. ICC for its part is set to have talks with India once again but it is unlikely that the BCCI is going to budge from its stand.

In the case of India not touring Pakistan the Champions Trophy tournament could yet again be played in the Hybrid model or will be shifted out of Pakistan. In such a scenario, either Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates could host the event fully or in a hybrid system.
