The Pakistan cricket team suffered a defeat against Team India on June 9 in New York. Notably, Babar Azam won the toss and invited the Men in Blue to bat first in the 19th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup. However, after being sent to bat first, the Men in Green restricted Team India to a modest score of 119 before bundling them out for just 19 overs. During the chase, Babar Azam and Co. could only manage to pile up 113 runs, which made them lose the game by six runs.
Following the same, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has called for major changes within the team after their recent loss to Team India. The cricket administrator slams Babar Azam and Co. for not chasing down the lowest total against arch-rivals. He also expressed displeasure over their team's performance and opened up about their loss to the USA camp along with the Men in Blue. Naqvi feels that it's a great time to consider a few players who were on the sidelines for so long.
Meanwhile, Naqvi also talked about the PCB's support for their players. The cricket administrator opens up on the team's underperformance and says they need a review after losing back-to-back two matches in the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.
We need to start looking at players beyond those in the team right now: Mohsin Naqvi
"I thought the team required minor surgery to start winning matches but now it appears that we have to go for major surgery. It is very disappointing the way we lost to the USA, and now, this loss is to India. We need to now start looking at players beyond those in the team right now," Naqvi told the media in New York.
"Why the team is not performing is something everyone is asking. The World Cup is still on. But obviously, we will sit down and take a look at everything," he added further.
