One of the most memorable days in cricket history occurred on June 25, 1983, when India won the Prudential World Cup in England. This day marked the beginning of a new era for India and international cricket when Kapil Dev's team defeated the overwhelming favourites, the West Indies, to win the title at Lord's. After being denied a chance by commentators and experts, Kapil led his soldiers to an incredible victory and transformed the nation's sporting scene.
The West Indies were eager to show off their dominating abilities and add a third World Cup trophy to their cabinet after winning the coveted championship in 1975 and 1979. When they batted first, Team India only scored 183 runs in 60 overs. The Indian batting lineup was destroyed by the West Indies' potent bowling attack, which included Joel Garner, Michael Holding, Malcolm Marshall, and Andy Roberts.
In the title-decider match, the Lord's Cricket Ground was packed and ready to see the West Indies put on another outstanding display. Sir Viv Richards, who is regarded as the most dangerous and hard-hitting batsman, came to bat at the crease at number three. Before Madan Lal bowled a slower one when the West Indies were on 57, he was experimenting with India's medium-pace bowling lineup.

Mohinder Amarnath spell helped India to win World Cup
Captain Kapil Dev, on mid-on, made a memorable catch under pressure after Richards mistimed the hit. Viv left for 33 with a strike rate of 117.85 and 7 boundaries. By then, India had gained the extra confidence they needed to pull off the biggest upset that anyone had anticipated, and the reigning champion still had a good opportunity to win the match. Jeff Dujon, Faoud Bacchus, Larry Gomes, and Clive Lloyd came and departed. The history book records the little score of 183. Mohinder Amarnath's three-wicket stint and 26 runs at bat earned him the title of man of the match.
