A shock for Indian cricket fans

The announcement of Test retirement by India’s most successful Test captain was shocking news for Indian cricket fans, who weren’t expecting this amidst India’s preparations for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.

The 36-year-old was also nearing a few historic milestones in Test cricket, including a landmark of 10,000 Test runs. He had scored 9230 runs in 210 innings of the 123 Tests he played when he announced his retirement from red-ball cricket. He scored 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, with seven double centuries. But everything came to an end with one decision from the legend.
