‘Nothing was scripted’ – Rohit Sharma reveals reason behind eating soil from Barbados pitch after winning T20 World Cup

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was left emotional after winning the T20 World Cup on Saturday. The 37-year-old could be seen teary-eyed after India won the game by 7 runs against South Africa in Barbados. 

At the end of the game, Rohit Sharma could be seen eating the grass off the pitch. This move caught many by surprise and there were many videos circulated on social media. The Indian skipper was asked by the media the reason behind this act of eating grass from the pitch.

Rohit Sharma replied “Nothing was scripted. I was feeling the moment. When I went to the pitch that pitch gave us this (WC trophy). We played on that particular pitch and we won the game. That particular ground as well, I will remember that ground forever in my life and that pitch as well."

Further speaking to the media, Rohit Sharma said “I wanted to have a piece of that pitch with me. Those moments are very very special. The place where all our dreams came true, I wanted something of it. So, that was the feeling behind it" 

Finally, during the press conference, Rohit Sharma shared his delight after winning the cup. “Yeah, the feeling is surreal. I would still say it hasn't sunk in totally. It's been a great moment right from when the game was over till now.

It feels like a dream we still feel that it hasn't happened. Although it has happened it feels like it hasn't happened. That's the emotion, that's the meaning that you have"

Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav revealed how Rohit Sharma and Jay Shah managed to convince Rahul Dravid to extend his coaching term. The 33-year-old during his chat with the Indian Express said that Rahul Dravid had thanked Rohit Sharma for changing his mind. 

“In the end, he came and thanked Rohit and said, "Thank you, Rohit, for that phone call in November", because he didn't want to continue after India's loss in the 50-over World Cup but Rohit and Jay sir BCCI secretary Jay Shah convinced him to stay” remarked Suryakumar Yadav.
