The star India batter and PBKS skipper, Punjab Kings, has been in the headlines since the selectors unveiled the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match Test series. The star batter was overlooked by the selectors while naming the 18-member India squad for the high-octane five-match Test series against England.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings, under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, have already qualified for the playoffs of the ongoing IPL 2025. The team has performed brilliantly under Iyer’s leadership, with eight wins and three defeats, alongside a ‘no-result’ game in their 13 matches so far, and is in the second spot on the tournament standings.
“I am not satisfied and content” – Shreyas Iyer
The 30-year-old also spoke about his aim and ‘unfinished business’ with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 amidst his omission from the India squad for the England tour.
“Definitely happy faces. I am not satisfied and content. We want to build momentum from here. Each and every individual is performing for the team. Job half done as of now. Important to stay in the present and seize every possible chance. Inglis and Stoinis come back into the side,” said Iyer at the time of the toss before the game against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur.
Besides his brilliant captaincy journey with Punjab Kings in the tournament’s current season, Iyer has also impressed with his batting performances in the tournament. He has scored 488 runs in 13 innings, including three unbeaten appearances, with a brilliant batting average of 48.80, hitting five half-centuries.
He is currently the leading run-scorer for his side in the ongoing 18th edition of the tournament. The PBKS are eyeing finishing in the top two spots to have two chances of qualifying for the tournament’s final. Notably, the Kings have qualified for the IPL playoffs after a long wait of 11 years since they did it last time in the 2014 edition of the tournament.
