Defending champions Mumbai are set to take on Haryana in the Ranji Trophy quarter finals match starting on Saturday. The venue for the match originally was set to be the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium. According to various reports doing the rounds, the game has been shifted to Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
The latest decision has as per reports, taken many including Haryana players by surprise. Mumbai Cricket Association president Ajinkya Naik while speaking to PTI said, “Yes, we have received a communication from BCCI that our quarter-final against Haryana will be played at the Eden Gardens."
Mumbai reached the quarter-finals after beating Meghalaya by a huge margin with Jammu and Kashmir joining them. Saurashtra are set to take on Gujarat at home while Vidarbha will play Tamil Nadu in yet another home encounter. Jammu and Kashmir will travel to Pune to face Kerala in their quarter-final encounter.
India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav and all-rounder Shivam Dube are set to play against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. 34-year-old Suryakumar Yadav has been in woeful form with the bat. Yadav failed to fire with the bat during the recent T20I series against England. Shivam Dube on the other hand played two games and scored 83 runs which included a fifty and also picked two wickets.
Former India star R. Ashwin had urged Yadav to change his approach to batting in the T20I format on his YouTube channel. Ashwin said, “The problem though, however, is Suryakumar's batting. Of course, his captaincy has been really good in this series. His captaincy has been on point, too. But he can allow his batting some much-needed breathing space. Sanju Samson and SKY getting out to the same ball, same field, same shot, same mistake, same dismissal.”
Coming back to the upcoming game, Mumbai will be led by Ajinkya Rahane and the current holders will want to continue their ruthless approach. It is expected that both Yadav and Dube will make their returns to the playing XI for the massive game starting on Saturday. The focus will also be players like Shardul Thakur, Karun Nair, and Cheteshwar Pujara who are set to be part of the quater-finals match-ups.
