Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was back on the field as he led the side in the first game of the three-match ODI versus Sri Lanka. The home team were led to 230 on the board thanks to a maiden ODI fifty by Dunith Wellage.

The Sri Lankan youngster got the home team back into the game after they had suffered a mini-collapse.

A funny incident took place when team India was bowling. Washington Sundar bowled a full ball which was played by Dunith Wellage. The Indian bowler went up in appeal but the umpire said no.

This is when Washington Sundar turned to Rohit Sharma to ask if there was a bat. India’s skipper could be heard on the stump mic saying, “What? You tell me. Mujhe kya dekh raha hai? Ab kya main appeal karu tere liye”. It was seen that the ball had hit the bat fully and would have been given not out in any case.

Sri Lanka posts fighting total on the board

Charith Asalanka won the toss and he decided to bat first on a wicket which seemed helpful for the spin bowlers. Rohit Sharma also said that he would have batted first as well. KL Rahul was back in the team with Shreyas Iyer as Rishabh Pant wasn't playing which surprised many fans.

Mohammed Siraj got the first wicket when he had Avishka Fernando caught by Arshdeep Singh for 1 at third man. Shivam Dube then struck when he dismissed Kusal Mendis out LBW for 14. Axar Patel got into action getting the wicket of Sadeera Samarawickrama for 8 caught by Shubman Gill.

Skipper Charith Asalanka was the next to go when he gave a simple catch to Rohit Sharma off Kuldeep Yadav for 14. Pathum Nissanka was out for 56 when he was trapped in front of the wicket off Sundar. When the wicket of Janith Liyange fell the score was reading 142/6 with the home side in deep trouble.

Wanindu Hasaranga came out in a positive frame of mind as he scored 24 off 35 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Dunith Wellage then took over as he played some smart cricket and scored boundaries off bad balls. The young Lankan reached his first-ever ODI fifty and got a standing ovation from his teammates and the crowd. India when they come out to bat will need to score 231 runs to win the 1st ODI match.
