With just a few days left for the start of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the focus turns to the first big event of the year. Some of the best players in the world will be part of the tournament and look to do well for their side and win the trophy. The tournament in its previous eight editions has seen some amazing run scorers in Champions Trophy history.
Amongst the current lot Virat Kohli has scored 529 runs from 13 matches while current India skipper has 481 runs from ten games. Joe Root is the most successful batter for England with 431 runs with one century and two fifties with an average of 53. Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman who scored a tremendous ton in the 2017 finals has scored 252 runs from four games with an average of 63.
For many players the coming tournament will be the first time they get to play what is called the ‘Mini World Cup’. This year the tournament is stacked with massive names who are looking to set the tournament on fire. 5. Sourav Ganguly (India) – 665 runs

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly is fifth on the list of all time leading run-scorers in Champions Trophy history. Ganguly, played 13 matches in the tournament and scored 665 runs with three centuries and three fifties. The former India legend had an average of 73 with a best of 141 that came during the 2000 edition of the tournament in Kenya. Ganguly scored 141 against South Africa in the semi-finals before scoring 117 in the finals against New Zealand which ended in a losing effort,
4. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 683 runs

One of the best batters to come out of Sri Lanka was none other than former skipper Kumar Sangakkara. The classy left-handed batter scored 683 runs from 22 games to find himself in the fourth spot of leading run-scorers in Champions Trophy history. Sangakkara, scored one century and four fifties with an average of 37. The left-handed batter’s best of 134 not out came against England during the 2013 edition. Chasing 294 to win, Sangakkara scored his 134 off 135 balls to help Sri Lanka win by seven wickets.
3. Shikhar Dhawan (India) – 701 runs

India’s former opening batter Shikhar Dhawan always seemed to reserve his best for Champions Trophy. In 2013, the left-handed batter scored 363 runs from five games. Dhawan hit centuries against South Africa and West Indies off successive matches before scoring 68 in the semi-finals against Sri Lanka. In 2017, Dhawan scored 338 runs from five matches with scores of 68.125,78, and 46 before falling for 21 in the finals. In ten games, Dhawan scored 701 runs with three centuries and three fifties with an average of 77.
2. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 742 runs

Yet another batting great who finds himself in the list for the leading run-scorers in Champions Trophy history is Mahela Jayawardene. The former Lankan skipper played 22 games and scored 742 runs with five half-centuries. Jayawardene despite all his greatness failed to score a century in this tournament but his run-scoring spree has seen him secure second place in the list.

Considered one of the greatest to play the game, Chris Gayle was known for his destructive batting and effortless timing of the ball. West Indies’ former skipper is the leading run-scorer in Champions Trophy history with 791 runs from 17 matches. The left-handed batter has three centuries and one fifty with an average of 52. Gayle’s three centuries in the tournament came during the 2006 edition where West Indies reached the finals before losing to Australia.
