T20 World Cup (Source-X)
Canada began their T20 World Cup 2024 tournament in fine style as they scored 194/5 from their 20 overs. The batting charge was led by Nicholas Kirton and Navneet Dhaliwal as the pair scored half-centuries to lead their team to the massive total against co-host United States of America.
Monank Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first as the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 started with a huge fanfare. American fans had crowded to the stadium to see their team make their debut in the tournament.
The USA side came into the tournament on the back of a massive high after beating Bangladesh in a short T20 series. This was their first ever series win against a full ICC Member side.
Canadian batters lay a strong foundation
Put into bat first, Canadian batters began well as they made full use of the powerplay overs. Aaron Johnson began the T20 World Cup 2024 in fine style as he smashed 23 runs from 16 balls with 5 fours to power his team to a good start. Just when the right-handed batter was looking dangerous, Harmeet Singh dismissed him in the 6th over caught by Nitish Kumar.
Pargat Singh was out for 5 when confusion with Navneet Dhaliwal saw him get run-out. Nicholas Kirton came out to bat and added 62 runs for the 3rd wicket with Dhaliwal in just 37 balls as the Canadian batters put the home team under pressure.
Navneet Dhaliwal played crisp shots as he kept the boundaries coming with Kirton too going hammer and tongs at the other end. Dhaliwal became the first batter to score a fifty in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a single. Nicholas Kirton too got to the mark with a couple of runs against Corey Anderson.
The former Kiwi international got USA back into the contest when he dismissed Dhaliwal for 61 off 44 balls. Shreyas Movva the Canadian wicketkeeper came out all gun blazing to give his team the much needed impetus to end the innings with 32 runs from 16 balls.

Easy 190+ score . Canada has scored more 190+ in last 9/10 matches. That's a great record for an associate nation team https://t.co/7hUIPHp8LV pic.twitter.com/3Y38kWpZcJ
A really impressive batting performance from Canada. Powered by attractive 50s for Navneet Dhaliwal & Nicholas Kirton as well as some outstanding power-hitting at the death. They finish on 194 for 5. A really tough chase ahead for the USA... #T20WorldCup #USAvCAN

Corey Anderson has impressed 👏. I 2018 for RCB, I remember him bowling slot balls at 125-130 at the death. He was massacred at that IPL.

Today it's been good length and short of good length mixing his pace up at the death. Good to see him get past those scars. #USAvCAN… pic.twitter.com/aNx2sGGKk5

It’s not a home run
It’s not a maximum.
It’s a six, people. A six! 6️⃣ @T20WorldCup #T20WorldCup #USAvCAN
USA already looking down and out after conceding these big runs. Steven Taylor looked nervous.#USAvCAN @jomboy_ @PeterDellaPenna
