Recently, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar made a certain statement about Mohammed Shami and his auction price to get reduced due to his injury. Shami has been out of cricket for a really long time now. He just played a Ranji Trophy game against MP where he claimed seven wickets in two innings. The player made a beautiful comeback into cricket and is in contention to travel to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
However, while having a chat on Star Sports, Manjrekar said, "There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami's injury history and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover there's always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season. If a franchise invests heavily and then loses him mid-season, their options become limited. This concern might lead to a drop in his price tag."
Shami didn't like the statement and took to his social media account to reply to Manjrekar in a different way. He put up a story on his Instagram account saying, "Baba ki jai ho. Thodsa gyan apne future k lie bhi bacha lo kaam ayega Sanjay G? Kisi ko future janna ho to sir se mile." The pace bowler is working hard to return to the Indian team, as he has been missing from the international team for a year now.
Will Mohammed Shami travel to Australia for BGT series?
The seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami played his first Ranji Trophy game after ages and claimed seven wickets in one game, which is incredible. This proves that the player is fit now to return to the international set-up. The BCCI asked him to play in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to prove his fitness. This means that he is in contention for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.
However, until any player gets injured, it won't be possible for the Board to get Shami into the team. Hence, they will have to wait for Shami to play in SMAT and then will probably decide about his future with the team. Shami's absence will impact India in the BGT series since he is an experienced bowler and knows his way around crunch situations.
