Nitish Reddy was heard telling Siraj “Miyan bhai, off pe khade rehna. Bahar ka ball chodd do. Ghumega nahi. Ghum gaya toh kuch nahi kar sakte, chodd do use” (Miyan bhai, leave the ball outside off stump alone. It will not spin, if it does, we cannot do much about it)

Ultimately it was Nitish Reddy who fell when he tried to hit Lyon over the top and was caught by Starc for 114 runs. It ended a great innings that helped India reach 369 runs on the board and take the fight to the hosts. On Saturday, the massive crowd at MCG gave the young batter a standing ovation.

Former Indian players laud Nitish Reddy and Washington Sundar

On day three of the MCG test match, India were brought back into the contest thanks to Washington Sundar and Nitish Reddy. The pair added a crucial stand which took India past the follow-on mark with Sundar scoring 50 before falling to Lyon.

Sanjay Manjrekar during his chat on Star Sports and said “We have seen similar batting from him earlier in Australia. So there were expectations from him and that is why he is probably playing in this match as his batting would help India. He is slightly different from the other batters. He takes his stance within the crease,"

The former India star also said “When he plays off the back foot, it seemed one or two times that he would get hit wicket. He plays so late. I have always been surprised that how can one guy have so much talent. He is an off-spinner. We saw him becoming a proper replacement for Ashwin in the home series and then batting like this. He plays T20 and 50-over cricket as well”

Irfan Pathan said “A different game was going on at the other end. Nitish Kumar Reddy was showing aggression. He was stepping out and playing big shots. When you see such a thing at the other end, it's even more difficult to control your instinct because you feel that two different games are being played. However, two different games were required to be played”
