Australia bowled out India for 369 runs to take a sizeable lead of 105 runs in the first session on day four of MCG Test match. Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar believes India would have to bowl out the hosts for a small score to win the 4th Test match. According to the veteran commentator, if India are given a target of 240, they can win the game to take 2-1 lead in the series.
During his chat on Star Sports, the former India star said “India have a chance if they repeat the performance of the previous Test against Australia. They will have to make sure that Australia don’t go beyond 120-127 mark in their second innings and there is possibility of the bowlers achieving it. They did it the second innings in Brisbane. If India are given a target of around 240, they can chase it,”
On Saturday, the former batting legend was in the news for his angry reaction to Rishabh Pant’s dismissal. Mr. Gavaskar termed the shot stupid after Pant was dismissed by Scott Boland for 28 runs caught by Nathan Lyon. The statement made headlines as an angry Gavaskar was seen lashing out at Pant while on commentary.
Sunil Gavaskar lauds centurion Nitish Kumar Reddy
Young Nitish Kumar Reddy was the man of the hour as he led India’s fightback with the bat. The youngster scored 114 runs with the bat and became the first ever Indian batter to score a Test century in Melbourne. The century was achieved late on Saturday with a boundary off Boland with the player’s father in attendance who had tears in his eyes.
Speaking about the knock, the 75-year-old said on Star Sports “This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of the Indian cricket”
Mr. Gavaskar also added “However, he will have to remember the sacrifices made by his father and other members of the family. Nitish is here because of the Indian cricket and he will have to make sure that he doesn't take Indian cricket for granted. If he stays true to himself, a successful career lies ahead of him”
