Team India began their Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a win over Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma’s side won the match by six wickets with 21 balls left to play. Former India star Shikhar Dhawan was in the commentary box and was seeing his former opening partner in full flow with the bat.

Rohit smashed Mustafizur Rahman for a four in the sixth over and reacting to the shot, Dhawan said, “Kisi ke naak me heera, kisi ke kaan me heera. Mujhe heero se matlab kya mera to yaar hi hain Heera," (Some have diamond on their nose, some have it on their ears; why should I worry about diamonds when my friend is a diamond himself.)

Aakash Chopra and Navjot Singh Sidhu, who are known to wax lyrical in the commentary box, were left stunned with those words. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma began to open the batting for India in ODI cricket during the 2013 edition of the Champions Trophy. The duo share a strong bond and went on to win many games for India.

‘Bumrah will be a huge loss’ – Shikhar Dhawan

The former India star batter had put his firm belief that the Men in Blue can win the tournament. One concern that Dhawan had was regarding Jasprit Bumrah not being part of the side. Bumrah’s injury meant that he couldn’t get fit in time to make it to the event and was eventually replaced by Harshit Rana.

ICC quoted Dhawan as saying, “I can’t look past India. I am quite confident about them—they have a solid team and played very well against England in their recent ODI series. But my concern is that they are going to miss Jasprit Bumrah. There’s no doubt he will be a huge loss, and they will feel it very strongly. For me, he is the best bowler in the world, and his accuracy is hard to replicate. He is also a very calm character, which is crucial in a big ICC event like this."

While speaking about Harshit Rana, the 39-year-old said, “There are many reasons to be optimistic about India. They have a well-balanced batting lineup with a mix of experience and youth. Shubman Gill, in particular, is so consistent, and I believe he will have a great tournament."
